Get ready to experience the warmth and cosiness of a pair of glerups winter slippers. Made with the finest wool blend to keep your feet as comfortable as possible, as you cosy up by the fireplace, read a good book or watch your favourite show in the warmth of your home. Take a look at our selection here.
At glerups, we believe in creating winter slippers that have a timeless design and are functional in your everyday life. In this way, they are a perfect example of Danish design. They are made to give you and your feet a special experience that you can enjoy every day. At glerups, we take pride in our Danish design tradition, which, together with the Nordic expression of natural and pure wool, has brought us recognition in the US, among other countries.
The simple and modernised design of the classic winter slippers suits every taste and every type of person, who appreciates quality and timelessness. And, of course, the practical functionality means that you can use your winter slippers from glerups for most of your daily activities around the house and as a regular part of your casual leisure wear. The neutral colours are chosen with inspiration from Nordic nature and makes the winter slippers an easy fit into any wardrobe – and any foot.
We also like to think of our home shoes as a way of introducing the world to the Danish concept “hygge”, which directly translates to cosiness or the feeling of home and relaxation. Both as a place and a state of mind, hygge is a way of recharging while enjoying yourself, whether with loved ones around playing games, eating snacks or watching a movie together, or just a nice, quiet time alone, perhaps while listening to a podcast or enjoying a cup of coffee.
What makes glerups stand out, other than their distinct Scandinavian aesthetics and design, is the refined mix of wool. The combination of wool from Danish Gotland sheep and a special high quality wool from New Zealand makes for a unique wool blend, which gives your feet both warmth and comfort.
One of the special traits about this type of wool is that it keeps your feet warm naturally as the wool itself isolates the warmth. At the same time it allows your feet to breathe through the wool, making it almost impossible to get sweaty feet in these slippers. The fibres might look as if they are close together, but their texture is open, so that they can let out any excess heat.
This makes them perfect for daily use during the cold winter months, whether you are having a relaxing day at home or in the office, when you need to get things done. An added benefit is the feeling of the slippers – their lightweight features give your feet a sense of freedom even when wearing them for extended periods of time. They are also quite durable when taken care of properly. You can find more information on how to keep your winter slippers here.
Back in 1970, founder of glerups Nanny Glerup saw an ad in the local paper for a course in creating things out of felted wool. She signed up for it and quickly discovered how lovely and easy the material was to work with. She made a pair of wool slippers for her husband, Ove. Ove was both touched by the gesture and enjoyed wearing these slippers – in fact, he practically wore them everywhere and proudly told others about how his wife had made them for him as a gift. Nanny now felt inspired; this was the start of something.
Soon she was making slippers and shoes for the entire family and close friends. Ove then had an idea about buying a farm, where they could have sheep of their own and then produce the wool themselves. The idea evolved and became a business and is now known as just “glerups”. Nanny herself calls it a fairytale and as glerups continue to grow and be recognized around the world, she isn’t wrong. The farm, purchased by her and Ove back in the day, is now glerups headquarters in Denmark and is just called “the farm”.
This is quite symbolic of the glerups way of thinking; being innovative and curious while staying true to the past and the story, with both feet on the ground – of course, in a pair of glerups.
Driven by our ambition to produce slippers, shoes and boots while staying in line with the founding philosophy, we continue to develop the product, which is currently the result of more than 30 years of curious and determined effort. A development that is also based on a respect for nature, a careful selection of the perfect materials, an adherence to the good old traditional craftsmanship virtues, and an ongoing dialog with our loyal glerups fans.
Our slippers are much more than just footwear you put on when you need something on your feet in a hurry – they are the symbol of a certain approach to life. With a pair of glerups winter slippers on your feet, you give yourself the best conditions to enjoy the small moments of relaxation, warmth and cosiness that can make everyday life very special. So take a step towards the ultimate self-pampering through comfort and quality, and give yourself and your feet the gift you deserve this winter. Winter slippers from glerups won’t let you down.
